chances are, if you're a girl about my age, or a mom, or a mom about my age, or in some way connected to children and attracted to men, you've had at least a little crush on steve from blue's clues.
this, my friends, is the newest person to make a record with the flaming lips:

i have been going around telling people about this all day. because i'm utterly fascinated by it. by the idea that this kind of dorky guy from kids' programming who talks to salt and pepper shakers made of felt and has an animated menagerie of technicolor animals can suddenly start writing music and shave his head and grow a beard and become a Sensitive Rock Boy. i think it's more interesting for me because i'm a kind of dorky girl who spends her days sitting on tiny chairs and sings songs about five little freckled frogs. who, when she walks out of that building is likely to come home and write a hopefully incendiary poem, or dress in black pleather and faux fur to take her niece out trick-or-treating. i like the idea of becoming something else.
so naturally, i ordered the album. it should be here within a few days, and a full review will of course follow.
