in all honesty i've been avoiding politics for the past while...i have a lot on my shoulders these days. i spend my nights grinding my teeth and worrying as it is, so how can i add war to my list? except of course that i can't help it. i can't imagine that anyone of conscience can help it.
ok so this whole anti-french thing is for real? honestly i felt the urge to run this "freedom fries" thing through the urban legends page. nevermind that they're actually belgian. nevermind that some people are just freaky in their ideas of patriotism. because now, representative bob ney (R-ohio) has ordered this change to occur in all the House restaurants. not to mention freedom toast (and i'm pretty sure that's not actually french either). and he can do that. he's the chairman of the house administration committee.
oh but there's more. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite has sponsored a bill that would make the government pay for families to bring back to the united states their relatives who died in the world wars (including the one that was supposed to end all wars. what was that, about six wars ago now?). i had to read that twice to make sure i wasn't hallucinating. she wants people to dig up their loved ones who died defending their country and the freedom of countries around the world including france and bring them back to the united states because france is trying to prevent more people from dying in yet another war? people have truly lost their minds.
you have no idea how much i wish i could say that was it. but while the house is busy making sure the world is safe from fake french food, a real threat has passed the senate and is moving their way. it supposedly bans only late-pregnancy "partial birth abortions." in reality, not only does it deny doctors the ability to use whatever procedure they feel is safest for their patient, but bans the most widely-used and safest second-trimester method, and makes no exception for a woman whose health is in danger. which it is required to do by the supreme court. so here we go again. WRITE YOUR REPRESENTATIVES!!!!!!!!!!
