fred rogers died of cancer this morning at 74 years old. his was probably the longest running children's television show ever. it managed to be something that taught kids something even when they didn't notice it, and stayed calm and dignified even in the age of barney.

i watched him faithfully every day; my niece watches him now. i think that alone says something.
