my life is so sad

the highlight of my day was trying to explain to the latina cleaning woman at the daycare that we needed a plunger. i don't speak spanish. we needed a third party translator, so she called someone. it was funny, and sylvia and i both learned some new words. you never know when knowing how to say "flush" in spanish might come in handy...

otherwise...

the center is up for accreditation renewals this month, so everyone is completely on edge. because obviously we're not allowed to be ourselves while the validators are here. we have to be Super Teacher. we have to make sure that we don't use words like "no," "never," and "don't." we actually had a staff meeting to review answers to questions that we might be asked. i got lectured last week on using phrases that were "too directive" and not enough "redirective." i feel like i'm walking on eggshells. people who take care of kids are strange.

sorry this is so sporadic lately. i promise to become more disciplined. after the folkfest i'll actually have stories to tell. my ticket's here, the days off have been approved. time to unpack the tent, wash the sleeping bags, and stock up on nonperishables and bottled water. can't wait to be there. ani's playing this year, too.

maybe i'd have a life if i didn't need sleep.
