so they fired my supervising teacher yesterday. before i went to work on tuesday, she forgot a kid. which is, believe me, not that hard to do. especially when he gets counted and then slips back into the room when you turn your back to open the door. and it's happened to a few of the teachers there (though their kids were left on the playground). anyway, they fired her yesterday, came down and got her things, and never let her in the room.
and i'm feeling a little conflicted about the whole thing. because on one hand, she didn't have the first clue how to do her job. and she never took care of anything she was supposed to take care of. and she never came back from her breaks on time, and her planning time was an excuse to go sit around and bullshit with people in the break room. but on the other...they fired her for something that's happened to a lot of teachers. that's bound to happen if you have a kid like the space cadet who wanders off on a daily basis. so i'm not sure it's something she should have been fired for. all the other things she's done, yes. but then it should have been like that, and not making a huge deal out of something else as an excuse to fire her. and really, i feel sorry for her. and i wonder what they would do to me if something bad happened on my watch.
of course i feel relieved at the same time, because until we get a new supervising teacher, i can sort of go along with what i've always done, except without the fear of offending supervising teacher. because really, i was running the room already. being short-staffed will be the only worry we have, not who will come up with the planning and execute the ideas. and i may actually let them know that i'm interested in teh position myself...
i realize i don't talk about work in here much, and there are reasons for that. one being that my life is not my work. but this was big enough that i thought i should share. if it has my stomach in knots, it's probably an interesting entry. so bear with me for the next few days; things might get a little bumpy.
