if you like pina coladas...

two responses so far to my personal ad. since i wasn't expecting any, it's kind of gratifying. i haven't decided whether i'm going to be really brave and actually respond to ads. it would be silly, wouldn't it, not to? except that these companies are clever. it's free to join, it's free to put up your ad and your picture. but it costs money to reply to ads. that's how they get you. so if nobody pays, we're all just faces and witty repartee floating around in cyberspace without interacting. kind of reminds me of the parties i went to in college.

the growth of online dating sites is probably a statement of some sort...maybe about how totally disconnected people really are from each other. because let's face it, even ten years ago people met each other out in the actual corporeal world. and before that, communities existed, and people went to community functions and met each other there. (of course, people also married young, settled down, and had kids. so the new ways aren't all bad.)

i have no idea what point it is i was trying to make with that. except how bizarre i find the concept. although i probably shouldn't, because three quarters of the people i feel close to at this point are people that i met online (read: through diaryland). maybe andrew should set up a dating service...

i'm the love that you've looked for, come with me and escape. -beatpoetgrrl
