s*a*t*u*r*d*a*y night

i have a few minutes in between all the things i need to do, so i'll squeeze an entry in here. i miss writing; mainly i miss having the leisure time to write. this week has felt like a month for some reason, and it's not just me. all the parents coming to pick up their kids yesterday looked so incredibly tired, i almost felt sorry for them. of course, it's their children who are making me feel so tired...

it was certainly an eventful couple of days; a few accidents, some trips to the nurse for bumped heads, and the inevitable refrain of "get back on your cot!" i'm thinking of getting a tape recorder that will play it over and over, to save myself time and effort. otherwise, i'm having an amazing time; the children are wonderful. though i'm having a hard time breaking some of the boys from turning their blocks and puzzle pieces into swords and weapons. i don't like it, and neither do the parents of the other kids. i'm talking myself hoarse explaining that weapons hurt people, and we don't want to hurt our friends. then finding some other way to use whatever was just a weapon. it's a good thing that i have an overactive imagination. on the other hand it's heartening to know that the "housekeeping" section of the room is the most popular with boys and girls. i showed one of the very same "weapons" boys how to hold a baby yesterday, and his eyes lit up. yay disproving gender identity stereotypes!

i was awake this morning by 8:30. there's nothing like a full-time, regularly scheduled job with loads of responsibilities to enhance your level of grown-up-edness. though of course i went back to bed around 9, and slept til noon. grown-ups get to do that too. mom's guinea pig zoe died last night; she made it to nearly eight years old, which is outrageously old in guinea pig years. still, it's sad. i found a shoebox and some cloth, and tomorrow she'll get a proper burial in the back garden with the rest of our dearly departed pets. some people may find this odd, but i find it comforting in a way.

and the jezebel-kitty somehow got herself stuck in the basement this morning, and had to be coaxed out with kitty treats and such. she's not supposed to go past the second floor landing because of the shepherds who would play far too rough for such a little kittenling as herself, so it was rather a shock. once i got hold of her, there came the struggle of keeping hold long enough to transport her back to the safe zone. luckily i had on a thick sweatshirt, so the gouges to my shoulders are minimal.

and now off to chaperone at the youth center concert. i'd go even if i wasn't working, because andalucia is playing and i love them. even if i wasn't separated from them by only one degree (i know one of the guy's mom), i'd be fascinated by the music. and the old B sci-fi movie sound bytes that overlay the music. so i'm out of here, kids. enjoy your collective night.

my quote of the day:
"Don't threaten me with love, darling. Let's just go walking in the rain."
