Q: why do seagulls live by the sea?
A: because if they lived by the bay they'd be bagels.
i just lost my entire entry because diaryland went flooey. thanks a lot, diaryland.
so anyway. it's been six days since i wrote. and that's not because i've been slacking. on the contrary, it's because there's been so much busy-ness going on around here. since tuesday, i've done a lot of fun things. no, really.
my friend jim turned 21 on wednesday, so we threw him a happy birthday bash starting in a seedy-but-fun local bar and ending at ward's temporary lodgings in the trailer park across the street. i ended my Younger Brother's reign as king of the pool table, and discovered my latent talent at shuffleboard, a game i had never before tried. it works sort of like bocce ball, but inside, with metal hockey pucks sliding down a table. and i trounced virtually everyone. then to ward's house where we built a large fire in his grill. i got tipsy and went around saying "look, my underwear has a silver star and says rocker!" while pulling the waist of my jeans low enough to show them off. Younger Brother snapped and had a yelling fit at his ex-girlfriend and then made out with a truly heinous girl. someone gave him tequila. bad bad bad. finally i fell asleep around 7 am, went home around noon, and slept.
earlier on wednesday, alison jean the screamin machine and i had gone to the youth center to paint the games room, in order to cover the graffiti. we didn't finish, and so thursday night found us back there at 10, painting and scraping paint off windows and painting more, until 3 am. it's a miami theme. lime green walls form a background for a giant palm tree and a flock of flamingoes. and let me tell you, painting flamingoes at 2 am is incredibly challenging. for the most part though, they're at least recognizable as members of the species, and the palm tree is quite good.
friday's concert went fairly well. i was back at the youth center cleaning from noon until 3:30, and then i showered, donned my costume, and went back for setup. sadly it was seasonably cold, just when we were hoping that the unseasonable warmth would hold just one more day. and then there was the mystery of the disappearing bands. all the bands showed up; and then the transfusions said "we'll be back." only they never came back. and unopposed lost their guitarist somewhere on the way, so they went back out to find him. and never came back. the vaudeville vampires had a good show, and stretched it out as long as possible, but when it became obvious that we were two bands short, the highschool kids' band went back out and played around for a while. everyone had a good time, we had some new faces in the crowd, some younger kids, and we raised about $100.
saturday at the youth center i cleaned up, played pool for several hours, and listened to the better than your records people bicker. i am sick of the words recording, CD, production, production schedule, post-production, album, and every other word that applies to the making and recording of music. sunday i recovered from my week by sitting around, watching dolores claiborne and other more inferior movies on television, and sewing two purses out of old jeans. i'm enjoying the recycled clothing projects, especially since i have several boxes of things that i swore i'd use one day. i think making my costume has put me in the mood for making lots of new things. especially ones i can give for christmas gifts.
for photos of my halloween costume click here and here. apologies for the blurry quality, i think mom wasn't wearing her glasses.
