an eye for an eye will only blind the world

i've decided to rechristen the Best Baby in the World; she is now princess messyface, in light of her insistence on "helping" us feed her. right now she and her sippy cup are smeared all over with chicken noodle babyfood and arrowroot cookie. gross, but in a cute way.

afghanistan has refused to turn over osama bin laden; that's the news i woke up to this morning...i wish i knew what to think about all of this. i agree that terrorists should be found and brought to justice. hatred should not be allowed to remain free in the world. not only in the middle east, but in northern ireland and in the united states and anywhere else it lives. the KKK, the IRA, the nazi party, the taliban, the aryan brotherhood, etc, et al, ad nauseum, are groups of terror and hatred. they prey on people's fear of difference in order to gain control. it's not about beliefs or religion, not really. it's all about power.

i don't understand how any humane person could rationalize harboring a terrorist; i would think that horrific attacks on human lives would make any feeling person cringe. i can't understand a kind of human nature that lusts for blood and destruction, whether the terrorists themselves or even the people of my own country who thirst for retribution. i think what frightens me the most i think is that i can see this most recent tragedy as part of a pattern...it frightens me to see the sins of the past coming home to roost. the truth of the matter is that the CIA trained a whole lot of terrorists over the years, from saddam hussein to osama bin laden, to a whole host of people in south america. part of the reason, i think, was the fact that communism was the big bad enemy, and many people would have given anything to see it fail. did they give too much? it frightens me to think that we only find out what the CIA does twenty years too late to stop them.

i think that's the sum of how i feel about this whole thing. i'm frightened.
