oh say can you see?

happy fourth of july everybody! believe it or not diarylanders, this is my favorite holiday. mostly because i'm a sucker for fireworks. and the tri-country fair. something about riding death-defyingly rickety spinning things and eating funnel cake and cotton candy, two things that in any other context would make me sick to death. something in the way you can walk past five people you used to know in 30 seconds, which, considering that i was away from my hometown for nearly 6 years, is like speed-visiting. though considering my less-than-stellar highschool social life, this may be more of a curse than a blessing. most of them i don't want to see...

yeah, so...america...the fourth of july...see, it's a conflicting holiday for me because i don't feel that unconditional love for and belief in my government and fellow citizens necessary for complete enjoyment. what i love about the fourth of july is the celebration of freedom from tyranny; the idea of standing up to someone who's oppressing you and saying no. there are a lot of things wrong with america and americans as a culture. i'm afraid of my government and the amount of power that they want to wield over my body and my life; i'm afraid of the people in this country who are operated by greed and love of security. i hate the emptiness of a consumer-driven culture. but i love the fourth of july...because it's a celebration of freedom from a tyrannical government. maybe it's time to do a little standing up for ourselves...

by the dawn's early light...

i worked on summer activity calendar fliers for the youth center til 2:30 in the morning. why? because when i finished the first one at midnight, the computer crashed. now, with my computer of course it's an even bet, and it usually waits til i finish something important without saving it (like a diary entry) and then crash. i'm convinced that my computer is at least partially sentient, and it truly dislikes me. it doesn't crash for anyone else. it knows i'm only using it for my own designs; i don't love it.

ok kiddies, it's time to go stuff envelopes (yay holiday activities) so i can bring people to the youth center.we're talkin absolutely skeletal attendance as of late.
